Lyudmila Alexeyeva, Oleg Orlov and Sergei Kovalev have been shortlisted for this year's Sakharov Prize, the European Parliament's annual human rights award, on behalf of Memorial, and all other human rights defenders in Russia.
The nomination is particularly appropriate as Andrei Sakharov himself was a founder of Memorial, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of his death in December 1989.
